Tupira Surf Club and local Primary School St Therese's Sister School relationship with Hillbrook Anglican School in Brisbane Australia

In June 2010, Tupira Surf Club pivotal role in the initiation of building a sister school relationship between local primary school, St Therese's, and Brisbane school, Hillbrook Anglican School. We hosted the 2 teachers from Hillbrook, Sue Petersen and Steve Cambridge, for the 4 days they were in Ulingan to set the foundations and build a plan for the future for how this sister school relationship could work.
We are all super excited about this new relationship that will reap benefits for our local school children and wider community as a whole but is sure to offer Hillbrook and those from the Hillbrook community that come over and spend time with us in Ulingan and the Surf Club.
We thank Sue and Steve for their time and effort in all they did in the planning for the trip, all their enthusiasm and excitement while they were with us and the massive amount of time, effort and work they have put in since returning home to cement and build this relationship.

Sue and Steve came to the School morning assembly and then spent some time in the classrooms with each Class on one of the days.
definitely one of the highlights of their visit was the Welcome that the School and our community put on to welcome our Australian guests and friends. Traditional singsing from a number of villages, speeches, school tours and an outpouring of appreciation and emotions filled the event. For all involved it was a massively emotional afternoon and one that was much appreciated and enjoyed by all.

Our Surf Club President, Al Mom, made an excellent speech about the summing up the excitement, the opportunities and the benefits of this sister relationship for each individual student, for the school as a whole and the entire wider community. The benefits of this can be far ranging and we are all so appreciative of this opportunity. President Al summed it up fantastically in his speech and like all of us there showed his emotions at what the future holds for everyone invovled.

Here is Sue with a group of local grommies at the Surf Club. We thank Sue very very much for all her hard work, enthusiasm, motivation and vision to drive this initiative from Brisbane in gaining the approval from the Hillbrook Executive and then going about organising everything to make it a reality.

We cant wait to see Sue back with us as soon as she can!

Steve is pictured here at the top of the hill overlooking Tupira Surf Club with a crew from the Club that took Steve for a walk around to show him the many picturesque and beautiful sights we are blessed with.

We also are extremely grateful to Steve for all his work, time and effort that he has put into making this a reality and bringing this sister relationship to fruition and look forward to the ATLs return.

We understand the huge extra time commitment this will have placed on both Sue and Steve and feel very lucky to have been able to show them our life, our culture, our villages, our community, our school, our hospitality and our huge appreciation for all they have done.

Tupira Surf Club feels very priviledged to have been able to take such a major role in facilitating this and being able to offer another benefit to our community and show the potential of surfing for our whole area, not just for the surfers!

We look forward to exciting times ahead for all of us and extremely thankful for such an excellent opportunity to come our way!
